For new parents, there’s few things on their mind more than sleep. When will it come? How long will it last? You know the drill. When it came time to buy my son’s bed, I wanted to the best baby mattress I could afford. After all, newborns spend about 75% of their time asleep and even as they grow, children spend half or more of their day asleep! But I found out many mattresses are treated with flame retardants to meet fire-safety regulations– and that that those chemicals may be harmful for infants and children. Needless to say, I wanted to find the best crib mattress for my baby- one that was safe and comfortable.
All of my research led me to the Colgate Eco Classica III. Sure, the name is a little pretentious. But, it ended up being a great investment.

The best crib mattress needs the best mattress protector & sheets
After finding the perfect mattress to invest in, I wanted to protect my investment with sheets and mattress protectors that met the same level of safety standards. Here’s what I found:
These sheets are 100% cotton- they’re soft, have deep pockets to accommodate the thick mattress, and machine washable and dryable. They fit the mattress really well, which can prevent SIDS.
Even though the Colgate Eco Classica III states that it’s waterproof, I opted for a mattress protector to protect my investment. Baby diapers leak fluids that I didn’t want on the outside of the mattress.
This mattress protector is made with organic bamboo and free of chemicals that many others on the market have. It’s waterproof and will protect your mattress. Plus, it is machine washable and dryable.
There are only a few years where our kiddos will permit us to rope them into (adorable) family costumes, so we have to take advantage of that while we can. There are an infinite number of costumes on the market for kids, but many of them need to be hand washed.
Raise your hand if you’ve got time to hand wash costumes.
There are some wonderful doctor toys for kids on the market now that can help you bring a doctor’s office right into your home. These toys can help children gain some control by allowing them to take a step into the driver’s seat, so to speak. Plus, they can practice empathy and creativity as well.
